I definitely know a thing or two about making critical, sound decisions with imperfect information and little time to reflect. I find ways to achieve smooth, flawless landings… whether it is launching a new product into a highly-contested marketplace or executing that sweet touch-down on a runway.

A self-described intellectual explorer, I thrive in learning and experimenting with things to satisfy my always-curious and systems-thinking oriented mind, continually expanding my holistic understanding. By discovering new things, I am able to connect concepts together that have become new innovations which stand out as pioneering marketplace disruptors long before they became mainstream.

But those revolutionary products still need to be deeply rooted in viability. I strongly believe that the most successful companies deliver products that customers love while also solving their problems 10 times better than any other available options. By championing an artisan, quality-driven mentality and challenging my teams and the company to strive for mastery, the resulting end products have delighted users. Customers have resoundingly built strong emotional ties and loyalties to my companies offerings, transforming them into product evangelists and ambassadors.

All of this leads to the very thing that motivates me every day: Knowing that the company and products I lead make a difference in users’ lives and enable them to go on and achieve amazing things.

My experience has shown that the keys to creating these stand-out products mean that leaders have to help companies achieve product clarity around the vision, then prioritize for simplicity and velocity. Getting everyone aligned, building and nurturing the right culture, incorporating feedback and input from all perspectives, and then building synchronicity are of critical importance from a leadership standpoint.

This is one of the reasons why I became a private pilot, using many of these leadership skills: it requires a person to think ahead, plan, anticipate, monitor, and correct all the time (known as being “ahead of the plane” in the aviation world) in a very complex system that includes weather, physics, mechanics, electronics, rules, communication, and skills.

Tapping into many sources of information and surrounding oneself with the right people informs both pilots and business leaders to make the best-informed choices possible on which direction they want to go and ultimately reach that final destination successfully.
